Analysis, rambling and rants from around the NHL (from guys and gals who are NOT Barry Melrose).
First, Bill Guerin. Now, Doug Weight. Can someone get me a time machine so I can rewind to, I don't know, 1998? Garth Snow's next target: Owen Nolan.
If it wasn't for already having Ricky in net, I firmly believe we would have signed CuJo too.

Owen Nolan wouldn't be a bad addition Kev ... there is nothing wrong with adding veteran talent like Weight or Nolan when you are expected to fill out your roster with kids. Someone has to teach them how to be professional, how to deal with the ups and downs of the NHL and, at the same time, take the pressure off of them. Do you think the MSM and blog boxers are going to rush over to Blake Comeau after a tough loss? No. Weight compliments Guerin well and adds another respected voice to the locker room. Plus, you also have to keep in mind that the Isles still have some money to spend before they even hit the salary floor ...
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Scotty in that Nolan was a force last year for the Flames with key goals, despite lacking in other statistics.
ReplyDeleteAs for Weight and Guerin, well I guess they should be glad they aren't racehorses otherwise Garth would be calling up Elmer's to see what their trade value would be.
The Isles seem to be following the classic old Chicago strategy.
ReplyDeleteGo cheap by getting way past prime players - but still way overpaying for the value ultimately received.
All you need is Ryan Smyth to reunite the entire line. (Oh, wait...) Just think of how awesome that would've been ten years ago.
