Thank You Sir, May I Have Another?

That's not Mark Streit but it came up when I searched Yahoo for pictures of him. It's probably more entertaining to look at anyway.

With apologies to Garth Snow, it is my pleasure to announce that the Islanders have addressed one of their needs: a powerplay quarterback.

They nabbed defenseman Mark Streit for four years at $20.5 million. (He'll be traded by January for draft picks.) Streit had 62 points in 81 games last year for Montreal and, well, I'm pretty happy with this one.

This doesn't change the fact that the Islanders aren't looking too good next year, but hey, it's a start! And, as of right now, we're looking a lot better than we were this time last year when we lost half our team to free agency. So there's always that. Can't really do any worse.

    I read your first post about the lack of Isles activity approximately 14 seconds before TSN reported the Streit signing. This provided me with at least 30 seconds of amusement.

    Now if only I had bitched about how we hadn't won a Cup in a while... Maybe that would have happened in 14 seconds too.

    Streit is a good guy, you'll like him. Not the best defenceman, for sure, but he'll score goals on the PP.
    The trick, however, is that he scored most of his points last year as a forward, and he has stated that he would like to remain on defence now, so his production is likely to drop a little bit next season.
