Chris Pronger Should Be Suspended for the Season

Even newer, new video footage has arisen on the YouTubes. Thanks to the folks at BoC for pointing it out.

I move that we suspend Pronger for the rest of the season, including playoffs. Maybe he should be suspended for life for the way he blatantly stomps on Kessler's chest multiple times. I don't know about you, but I'm about to register ChrisProngerHatesAmerica.com and start a petition to at least get him deported from the country. He's clearly a threat to our national security. Just see for yourself. I mean for the love of hockey, he has a giant hand that controls him! What the hell is that about!?!

On Chris Pronger...

Gotta love Pensblog. They came up big on this one.

"Rewind to Chris Simon's suspension:

“In addition, while the act itself was extremely dangerous, the fact that this is the eighth incident requiring the imposition of supplementary discipline on Simon compelled me to impose a very severe penalty in this case.”

Wow.
By the way, this was Pronger's 8th suspension of his career, too."
Colin Campbell = owned.

My FanHouse buddy Earl Sleek also had a great post on the subject. To simplify Earl word's... Colin Campbell = pwnd by the tubes.
"This post is to marvel at the power of a united hockey internet. While the unveiled video may offer an official excuse for Colin Campbell to change his position, I’m not falling for that explanation. Instead, I’m going to associate every one of these new suspended games to the growing power of the internet outcry, and it’s a pretty special thing to see. Journalists, message-boarders, bloggers, and commenters all chimed in very strongly with a loud cry for justice, and wow it seems to be getting results. The league seems to be listening. Even if tonight’s decision goes against everything I’ve personally been preaching, I don’t know if I’ve ever been as proud of the hockey internet as I am tonight. It’s just fascinating to see a cumulative voice of the fan make change in an often-stubborn league."
I'm still not 100% convinced that we, the people, did this... But if in fact we had any influence whatsoever. Even the smallest, tiniest, bit... Ice cream sundaes for all!

Updated Bad Boys Standings

So much for updating yesterday... Apologies for that. I don't know how many regular readers are around here on the weekends, but I would imagine most of you are out doing something better than reading my ramblings anyway.

But today I'm going to do something that I've been putting off for a bit. In light of Steve Downie's sucker punch of Jason Blake last night, it's probably poignant. It's the BMR Bad Boys Standings!

Since we last updated, Chris Simon decided to singlehandedly challenge the Flyers for their lead in the standings by earning a historic 30 game suspension. Now that's how you beat the Flyers. You gotta go big, or go home. Simon, well, he sort of did both after being dismissed by the Islanders.

Downie saw this and I can only assume that he decided the gap needed to be widened. He has not been suspended as of yet, but if there's a ruling expect it in the next few days. Also added to the list is Carolina's Craig Adams who got two games for hitting Alex Steen with this stick. Come on, you can to better than that!

Here are the updated standings, and they will be updated later in the week if and when Downie's suspension comes down. Oh, and Leaves is spelled correctly on purpose.

Checking in With the Goons

It's been a while and I'd say it's about time to update the standings for the BMR Bad Boys Award. How this works is that the team with the most total man games of suspensions will be crowned champions. The budget around here doesn't really provide for any actual awards, but there's certainly bragging rights to be had. Yes, lots and lots of bragging rights.

Since the last time the standings were updated, the Carolina Hurricanes got themselves on the scoreboard with a one game suspension from Scott Walker. Walker head butted Ottawa's Mike Fisher, in a blatant attempt to kick-start his team's run at the Bad Boys Championship.

That championship run will be a mountain to climb, as the Flyers continued to build their lead in the standings. Thanks to a three game suspension from Riley Cote, the Flyers now have lost a total of 52 man games due to suspension. It's going to be hard for any team to catch them, so the rest of the NHL had better get it's act together quick.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. the NHL: the Battle is on!

AP Photo/Tom Mihalek

Today marks the fourth time that a Philadelphia Flyers player was suspended this season. Scott Hartnell will be held off the ice for two games following his hit last night on Boston's Andrew Alberts. I'm not going to sit here and debate the length of the suspension, since I believe it's basically a moot point that two games is horribly short. What needs to be shown though, is the proof that we have a new incarnation of the Broad Street Bullies.

Here is the score as of today:

Philadelphia: 49

Rest of the NHL: 23 (and that's counting Mark Bell)

Is that something to be proud of in Philly? The Flyers are almost making it their job to get suspended.

You can credit ingenious commenter Nick for the idea.

Hitting a Man When He's Down

Looks like the Flyers are trying to extend their lead in the Suspension Standings. In response to Hartnell's statements, all I have to say is, my ass you were finishing a check. And how are the Bruins not going ballistic, seeing another one of their teammates knocked out by the Flyers?

2007-08 BMR Bad Boys Standings

Throughout the 2007-08 season I'll be using the handy dandy standings that you see to your right to keep tabs on the total number of games NHL players have been suspended for each team. At the end of the year, the team with the most suspensions will be crowned the victors and receive the BMR Bad Boys Award.

After receiving a four-game suspension yesterday for his slash on Mikko Koivu, Mattias Ohlund has put the Vancouver Cauncks on the board. As you can see, the Philadelphia Flyers are still far ahead in the lead, but with a little work they can be caught.

Only suspensions earned during the 2007-08 season or pre-season are eligible. Therefore, guys like Chris Simon and Rick Tocchet don't count since they earned their suspensions in previous years.

Let's recap the action so far... The Flyers earned an amazing 47 games thanks to the actions of Steve Downie, Jessie Boulerice and Randy Jones. Mark Bell earned 15 games for Toronto thanks to his off-season actions. Today, Mattias Ohlund got four games for Vancouver and Tom Kostopoulos got one game for Montreal. Teppo Numminen was suspended by the Buffalo Sabres but there has yet to be any official word from the NHL to the best of my knowledge, so Buffalo gets three games until further notice.
